Mayor and city council
The city council serves as the local legislative body in Winsted. The mayor and council adopt an annual budget, approve expenditures, appoint all staff and ratify all policies and ordinances of the city.

The Winsted City Council has also created several advisory commissions to aid the City in transportation, planning, development, recreation and quality of life issues.

Council members include:
• Mayor Steve Stotko, 372 South Shore Drive, (320) 485-3898. His term expires in 2008.
• Dave Mochinski, 310 Kingsley St., (320) 485-3474. His term expires in 2010.
• Tom Ollig, 141 George Ave. E., (320) 485-3987. His term expires in 2008.
• Bonita Quast, 661 Pheasant Run, (320) 485-2353. Her term expires in 2008.
• Tom Wiemiller, 620 Shady Creek, (320) 485-2312. His term expires in 2010.

Downtown Renewal Commission
Newly created in 2004, the Downtown Renewal Commission works to accomplish the following goals:

• Establishing downtown Winsted as the heart of the city, serving to enhance the quality of life in the community.
• Creating public and private partnerships to foster the growth and development of downtown merchants.
• Preserving architecturally significant structures and historic buildings as a means of retaining the unique character and heritage of downtown Winsted.
• Advocating a comprehensive plan for downtown Winsted to focus on business development, building design, land use, housing, signage, street design, and the use of public space.

Park Commission
The Winsted Park Commission plans and maintains the development of all city parks. The commission recommends an annual budget, reviews equipment needs, and plans for additional recreational opportunities in the area.
Park commission meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the council chambers.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the city council on all planning requests including: variances, conditional use permits, subdivisions, and preliminary and final plat procedures.
The Winsted Pride Award nominees are judged by the planning commission. The award recognizes residential and commercial/industrial property owners who go above and beyond normal standards to maintain their properties.

Meetings take place the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the council chambers.
